“As a “primer” pointing outward to further exploration,The Radical Doula Guide is lovingly crafted and inspirational. It’s definitely a must-have for any (personal or institutional) collection with a focus on reproductive justice issues.” –Anna J. Cook, the feminist librarian
“A must read for anyone interested in doula work or in the birth and parenting community!” –Jillian L. Schweitzer
“An easy-to-understand, inclusive, and short introduction to diversity, privilege, and power issues relevant to providing full-spectrum pregnancy support. I bought a copy because it feels good to have this kind of book within easy reach on my shelf, even though I’m just now exploring an interest in birth activism. The sections on ability, size, and age gave me food for thought.” –Goodreads reviewer Zigforas
“This lil primer covers BIG issues that all my other doula training books seemed to have missed. So glad to have found words for my misgivings with other hetero-normative, gender essentialist, “colorblind” readings. Highly recommend to doulas and future doulas.” -Goodreads reviewer Jenna Walthour

In August 2012 I published The Radical Doula Guide, a 52 page political primer that addresses the political context of supporting people during pregnancy and childbirth.
The guide provides an introduction to full spectrum doula work—supporting people during all phases of pregnancy, including abortion, miscarriage, birth and adoption—as well as a discussion of how issues like race, class, immigration, gender and more affect our work as doulas. You can read an excerpt of the introduction published at Womens Enews.
With the help of my community I raised over $4000 to support the printing and creation of the guide. Thank you to everyone who supported this project!

Ok excelente…i’ll stay up to date via twitter (@jennachiapas) or FB as have some doula friends in Mexico interested. I posted the guide info on the FB site for Assoc. Mexicana de Parteras for you.. Keep up the good work! In solidarity x
Is there a way to order this text and pay through paypl?
Sure! Just email me at email@example.com and I will give you the details. Please include the number of guides you’d like to order and where they will be shipped to.
Hi! I was wondering if I could purchase this as an online text rather than a book version?
Unfortunately not yet. Probably eventually I will make an e-copy available, but for now there are only printed copies available. Thanks for your interest!
Missed the fundraiser for extra copies 😦 – any chance at purchasing pdfs? or any plans for another printing?
Yes! Copies for sale here: http://radicaldoula.bigcartel.com/
Its just such a good book 🙂
Hi! Are you looking into have it translated to Spanish? I work full time as a translator and interpreter, but I’m also a doula ❤
Not yet, but I’ll keep you in mind! I think I’d need to update the content to make it relevant outside of the US context if I translated it. Yay spanish-speaking doulas!
Hello! Are you still selling The Radical Doula Guide? I would love to have a copy!
