Arizona governor signs racist anti-immigrant bill into law

I just had to comment on this news today, which is that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law just a few hours ago a bill that essentially mandates the racial profiling of immigrants.

President Obama is against the bill (thankfully), but that doesn’t mean it won’t immediately and negatively impact folks living in Arizona.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a state bill Friday that requires police to determine whether a person is in the United States legally, which critics say will foster racial profiling and discrimination but supporters say will crack down on illegal immigration.

As a Latina and a child of immigrant parents, it is so upsetting to see folks in Arizona have their rights and lives trampled on in this way.

The way that immigrants are criminalized in this country is outrageous.

I agree with you. As a daughter of immigrant parents (both who are now U.S. Citizen and I myself, was an immigrant, but now also U.S. Citizen), I saw how much my parents struggled to survive in the “Land of the Free.” I saw how they were treated and I saw how American Citizens were treated. I was three when I came into the U.S. with my parents, who were looking for a better life and I still remember how horrible we were treated. My parents always taught me to respect everybody, but how is that possible when people are being disrespectful to others?

This law which was placed by the governor of Arizona, in hopes of helping protect its residents, is indeed doing the opposite. It will allow the Latin World be segregated and treated unfairly. Yes, I know that half of the problem is the drug cartel, but what about the other half that wants a better life away from the Drug Wars that is going on in Mexico at the moment? Was the U.S. not started from immigrants coming from different places to have a better life, to avoid persecution and what not?

It is unfair that the “Land of the Free” is trying to keep people out after it was found by immigrants. If that’s the case, then Mexico should kick out all Americans and refuse to let them go to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta and all those places. Canada should kick Americans out as well. The same with China, Japan, Europe, France, etc.
