The Doula Project (NYC) is recruiting!

I can not say enough good things about this doula organization (and that’s not just because I was one of the founders). Lauren, Mary and all the amazing folks involved with this group have taken an amazing idea–providing support to pregnant folks across the spectrum of pregnancy–and created a vibrant and radical organization.

They’re recruiting for their next training this summer. They’re looking for trained birth doulas as well as folks who want to train as abortion doulas.

All the details are here.

I noticed they will not take you if you cannot commit to a year in the program. I’d love to do the training, but I will only be in NYC for the summer. Do you know if they will do this? Thanks!

Yes, unfortunately they are looking for people in the NYC metro area. There are a lot of similar doula projects popping up around the country though! Check out the website for more information about affiliated projects and groups. Offhand I know there are ones in Seattle, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Boston that are getting off the ground.

Hello there – I’m a doula in Austin, TX (http://www.getbabied.com) and just came across your blog. I just wanted to say, you go, girl! The work you’re doing is so interesting. I hadn’t heard of abortion doulas until now. I don’t think there is such a thing here in Austin, but I’m sure there’s a need for it. Good luck to you. 🙂
