Support the Doula Project!

An awesome organization of Radical Doulas in NYC (that I’m proud to say I played a small part in helping to found) is having a fundraiser in a few weeks. If you’re in NYC, participate! If you’re not in NYC, you can donate to support the group. They do amazing work with doulas across the spectrum of pregnancy–that means supporting moms giving birth, having abortions, even giving up their kids for adoption.
THE DOULA PROJECT PRESENTS

ACTIVIST OLYMPICS AND AFTERPARTY!
A FUNDRAISER

Remember Field Day? That magical day once a year when you got to leave behind your homework and run around the schoolyard with your friends? The Activist Olympics is an event inspired by our bygone elementary school days and a place for all of us to bring out the athlete in each other and donate money to a great organization at the same time. Join The Doula Project for an afternoon of fun and games and watermelons! Compete in team events during the day and your drink will taste even sweeter later that night at the Afterparty.

When: Saturday September 19 from 2-5PM

Where: McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (a 5 minute walk North on Bedford Ave, off the Bedford L train stop, the first stop into Brooklyn)

Register here: www.doulaproject.org/fundraiser/

Individuals: $15 ( we will place you with a team!)
Teams of 4: $50

Registration DEADLINE: Friday September 11
Once you sign up, we will send you more details about the event!

We know that playing with watermelons isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so come show your support at the AFTERPARTY AND AWARDS CEREMONY. Get to know the doulas, check out the costumes from the Olympics, and mingle over delicious drinks before you head out into the Saturday night ether.

Where: K & M Bar (sign says Krystyna and Margaret Pierogi) 225 N 8th St at the corner of Roebling St, 2 blocks from the Bedford L train
When: Saturday September 19 from 6-9PM
Donation: $10 – $100 – however much you are able to give! Olympians will get in free with a stamp from the park

Who is The Doula Project? We are a group of volunteers who work in NYC-based clinics, hospitals, and organizations to provide compassionate care and informational, physical, and emotional support to women and people across the spectrum of pregnancy.
This is our first ever fundraiser so please come support us! If you have questions contact mary@doulaproject.org.

    Hey there–
I’m a new doula, also a reproductive justice activist here in North Carolina. I hail from Atlanta, and was recently surprised and thrilled to see that the Doula Project is getting a group going down there!

I want, well okay I NEED, to get something going like this here in the Triad area of NC. I know of several pro-choice doulas-in-training and they’re down as well. Is there contact info for someone I might contact about getting more information about how this project operates? I’m willing to travel up to NYC to meet with folks, it’s actually something I’ve done quite a bit for activist work. Just let me know… by the way as a fellow radical doula I love your blog!!
